Welcome to the USGS Central Region

The Central Region of the U.S. Geological Survey studies the natural and living resources, hazards, and environment of the states between the Mississippi River and Rocky Mountain West.

The Central Region Director's Office, located in Denver, Colorado, is responsible for overseeing USGS scientific and administrative activities in the Central Region. Guidance is provided by the Central Region Executive Leadership Team (CELT) and Science Associates.

The Central Region includes scientists and support staff from all four USGS science disciplines, including Biology, Geography, Geology, and Water. It also includes a Regional Geographic Information Office and Office of Central Regional Services.

The USGS serves the Nation by providing reliable scientific information to:

describe and understand the Earth;

minimize loss of life and property from natural disasters;

manage water, biological, energy, and mineral resources; and

enhance and protect our quality of life.
